Despite the classic, radio-friendly Indie sound of one of London’s newest Chillout, Soft-Rock bands Sun Silva, lead singer Oscar Gormley brings an Alternative twist with his edgy voice, to the effortlessly played, mid-tempo drums and brass section which overall completely lights up the song, especially when the chorus drops…in other words…it is Indie Pop at its finest. Gormley’s emotive singing goes from delivering a similar vocal tone to Damien Rice to quite quickly delving more into the darker sounds of Rock singers such as Peter Hayes from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft.
However, despite the instrumental experimentation and Oscar’s ear-pleasing voice which grabs our attention, specifically during the middle 8 section where distortion, delay and a gigantic portion of reverb is added to his vocal to cleverly build up to that last chorus, their musical style still has a habit of throwing us back to the noughties Indie sound of bands like Starsailor, and ROUGH ONLINE love that Sun Silva have not forgotten where the UK’s distinctive Rock sound came from and which music acts carried it through to the present day. “Blue Light,” with its’ masterfully performed, Funky rhythm guitars and polished Indie Pop production is a great track to kick start Sun Silvas’ promising career in the music industry. Their debut single has already been featured on the FIFA 19 soundtrack, and this is the only beginning of many successes to come. ROUGH ONLINE highly recommend you check out “Blue Light” out now on all online stores.
