ROUGH ONLINE: Who is Nikolai and what makes him tick as an individual?
NIKOLAI:
That's a question I tend to ask myself everyday, but if I had to describe myself in 3 words I'd say dedicated, humble and loyal. Those are the three I strive on everyday and in terms of individuality, after all the chaos and joy of doing modeling/acting I always love to go to my one spot, relax and just analyse where my life is at this point and what's the next step.
ROUGH ONLINE: Would you consider yourself as a creative person and do you think it
helps ass being a model in this era?
NIKOLAI:
I think I would definitely consider myself as a creative person, I am always thinking of different ideas or what I can do to make this or that better. After my work is done I am never fully satisfied because I'm always thinking of how I could improve next time and learn from my mistakes then just saying my work is done. As for modelling I think creativity plays a massive role in it, as a model you should have an understanding of the photographers vision and then plan how you can portray that infront of the camera and keep trying new things until you get the best outcome.
ROUGH ONLINE: What motivates and inspires you? And where and how do you tap into
your source of inspiration?
NIKOLAI:
So there's three things that give me inspiration. The first is my family and friends, for those people who believe in me and never loose faith in me, I am doing it for them because those are the people I want to make the most proud. The second is the opposite, it's all the people who once doubted me and thought I was never going to make it, especially my maths teacher who told me I have a 1 out of 5000 chance of becoming a model/actor. I was so happy he told me that because that drove me even more so I could prove him wrong. Finally the third is my vision of myself in 20 years, so everyday I work hard to get to that version of myself, after I reach that version I'm going to work to the another 20 years ahead vission of me so I'm constantly growing.
ROUGH ONLINE: Models need to be clear communicators. Rate your communication
skills from 1-10. Can you elaborate on your score?
NIKOLAI: If I was to rate my commutation skills I'd have to say a 7/10. At photoshoots I believe it's a team effort 50% photographer and 50% model. Both photographers and models have to work together so that they can produce together the best possible outcome in the pictures. The reason I wouldn't give myself 10/10 is because I can be a bit shy sometimes and that gets in the way.
ROUGH ONLINE: What would your own definition of 'YOUNG' be as being featured as
'ROUGH Young Thing?'
NIKOLAI: When I think of YOUNG I think of words such as freedom, individuality and self discovery. I believe it is a time to truly seek who you are as a human being and plan the journey you want to take in your life.... also to get drunk and party. But I honestly believe that it is never too late to switch your life around and no matter how old you may think you are, you should never loose that feeling we all have of being "young". Hence why I don't agree with the saying " Your only young once". Live your lives the way you want and make every second count, take risks so that you won't have any regrets on your death bed. I'm young now but I made a promise to myself that even at age 60 I'm still going to be getting my groove on at the dance floor. So my final statement is being young isn't a physical thing it's a mentality one.
