Stiir are an interesting one, because although they deliver an overall Traditional, Indie Rock vibe, you cannot deny or ignore their obvious Funk influence on the infectious Rhythm guitars, which are doubled-up during the opening of the band’s new single “Free Yourself” to create the perfect “chorus” effect, as well as the 90’s Grunge-influence given away via the up-tempo drums and percussion. It would be no surprise if one of Stiir’s influences are The Smiths, due to the occasional upbeat track fused with their notable melancholic undertone, similar to the Stiir’s sound via the lead singer’s pitch-perfect and confident yet overly laid back vocal performance, in which you find yourself singing to the lyrics “free yourself from me” along with him in his subtle, relaxed persona.
The closed, one-off strum chords are very reminiscent of the Garage Rock sound of The Libertines, specifically their 2004 hit single “Can’t Stand Me Now,” and ''Free Yourself’s'' may hook you without a doubt and throw you right back to The Wannadies’ single “You and Me Song.'' ROUGH ONLINE can’t get enough of how well Stiir have captured the UK Alt-Pop sound of the 90’s. And of course, a masterfully played Electric guitar solo was all Stiir needed to finish up their debut single nicely, as well as effortlessly performed harmonies leading into each chorus. The music video is an authentic visual of what the band gets up to on a night off from rocking out on stage…hanging out in London with their hipster mates on your usual Saturday night, from chilling to getting absolutely plastered. Stiir will definitely gain a following in no time if they continue to release catchy numbers like this one. “Free Yourself” is out now all online stores.
