As we already know, the talent and studio skills of George Evelyn AKA Nightmares On Wax go through the roof, and on this occasion with his remix of Solomon Grey’s “Wonderful World” he has once again evidenced his superb technique to take you away from the song’s original and into a unique world of Electronics, as Wax always does so brilliantly, and yes ROUGH ONLINE means it when we say that the British DJ’s version is a million miles away from Grey’s single. This remix can easily be located amongst some of Evelyn’s best work, a critically acclaimed portfolio of art, in which here we find one of the UK’s top Dance music producers taking an emotive piece of music with string arrangements and meditative Vangelis-esque keyboard sounds, and then ensuring that you end up walking away from your Buddhist Temple into one of London’s most famous nightclubs Fabric.
Guaranteed if you weren’t prepped for your Saturday night out, you most definitely will be now with this banger, which uses multiple snares, on and off the beat, as well as an Acid House bassline to get you moving instantly. It’s not entirely unexpected for Wax to take you on a complete departure from the song’s original instrumentation, and it is masterfully attacked as always. However, the Leeds musician cleverly reminds us of the heartfelt sound of Solomon Grey by throwing some atmospheric synths into the equation as well as a sample of their tender, profoundly sad vocal performance. If you love the production of Electro duo Disclosure, specifically their 2014 hit single with Soul diva Mary J. Blige “F For You” then you will love the Nightmares On Wax remix of “Wonderful World” which features on Solomon Grey’s new release…the Human Remix E.P out now on all online stores.
