Delivering music production reminiscent of Dido’s beautiful ending to her 1999 debut album “No Angel,” entitled “Take My Hand,” duo St. Jude The Obscure are bringing so much more than their classified genre Synth Pop. Instead, they are fusing ethereal Electro sounds with masterfully played live instruments, which overall captivate the listener right up to the very end of their new track “I’m The Wolves.” It is a chilled, Alternative take on Folk Music which Rough Online absolutely adore for its’ catchy piano melody performed in the instrumental section after each chorus, band member Adele Emmas’ gorgeous, gentle vocals, effected with a bright reverb, and the official music video which showcases captivating contemporary dance and visuals of a stunning landscape.

“I’m The Wolves” opens with a soft, dance kick keeping the 4 by 4 tempo going, while a rhythm acoustic guitar is picked heavily so it is brought to the forefront along with Adele’s relaxing vocal tone, a similar voice to throwback one-hit wonder singer Lene Marlin, who you’ll remember for her 1999 hit single “Sitting Down Here.” A tiny choir of backing vocals in the bridge builds up to the chorus nicely, where we finally get to hear her slight gaelic-sounding yodel and toms are hit to fill out the section with a meditative atmosphere you easily get lost in. It’s in the second chorus where backing electric rhythm guitars and string synths are introduced, along with extra percussion and the drums are played on a bigger scale, as well as Adele’s memorable howling lead vocal imitating I’m The Wolves’ catchy piano melody, a powerful vocal performance which throws us back to early Sinead O’Connor.

Overall, it is a beautiful piece of music production which takes you on an emotive journey, alongside its’ official music video, where a half-naked male athlete, overlooking the river from a mountain, responds emotionally to the music through body movement, which as the music gets bigger in its’ atmospheric climax his body moves more and more dramatically in a simple yet effective choreographed, ballet-esque dance routine. It is a masterfully directed and edited visual that you will want to see again instantly after the first watch. You could easily compare the music of “I’m The Wolves” with singers and songwriter such as Beth Orton and Heather Nova, specifically Nova’s Pop-Rock era on tracks like “Heart and Shoulder,” from her 1998 album “Siren.” St. Jude The Obscure have quite simply created Folk Pop at its’ finest, and if Lana Del Rey ever decided to write an uplifting number as opposed to her usual downbeat, melancholic style, it would probably sound a little something like “I’m The Wolves,” which is available on download and streaming now from all online stores.
