ROUGH ONLINE: You must have felt very nostalgic when you wrote "Go All Out." When did the idea to reflect on your past in your lyric writing come about and do you remember the specific memory which brought about this concept for your new single?
SALT ASHES: I wrote the song about a year after my long term relationship broke up. I totally lost myself and spent that year rediscovering myself and learning how to love myself again. It made me realise how hard and strict I had been on myself since a teenager and made me reminisce on a time when I was more carefree as a child. We forget how to play as adults. There are so many expectations from us to stick to the rules and fit into certain categories that we forget how to be free, take risks and truly express ourselves without caring what other people think. I wanted to write a song to my younger-self...what would I say if I had the chance to?
ROUGH ONLINE: Everyone at ROUGH loves your sound. It is catchy, current and delivers a captivating, alternative vibe. Who are your musical inspirations? Who did you grow up listening to when you first decided to be a music artist?
SALT ASHES:I always knew I wanted to be a singer and have been singing and performing ever since I could hold myself up so this was a given. My inspirations change weekly to be honest with you, but I would say the ones that have stuck with me are Jeff Buckley, The Knife, Change, Giorgio Moroder, but I grew up on all kinds of music as I have an older brother and sister. We listened to the likes of TLC, Lauryn Hill, Nirvana, Oasis, Annie Lennox and Madonna. It was later that I found my love for electronic music and disco.
ROUGH ONLIBE: Who are you listening to right now? Who do you love on the music scene currently?
SALT ASHES:
Right now I'm in love with LEISURE, Esther Kirabo, Black Honey and Tennis. They are all making very exciting music in my opinion.
ROUGH ONLINNE: Is there an E.P or an L.P in the working? Will there be another new single coming soon?
SALT ASHES:
I'm continuously writing new music so there could be an EP on the cards but I don't want to rush anything. I would rather spend the time creating music I'm completely happy with before sending it out into the world like a baby with no armour.
ROUGH ONLINE: Are you going on tour, and if so what are your UK dates?
SALT ASHES: I have a headline show coming up in December but the date hasn't been announced yet! I can't wait though as it's going to be slightly different and definitely not one to be missed.
