ROUGH ONLINE have had Ider’s new single “Mirror”
on repeat literally all day today and we still can’t get enough of it. A duo that really know how to make you cry with an emotive string arrangement and tender vocals, with a deep tone reminiscent of Marina And The Diamonds and slightly similar phrasing to Katy Perry, they have really made Rough get a little teary eyed over a song that we have longed for since the beginning of the year. “Mirror” opens with an Organ playing a simple yet emotive chord structure, and meditative singing which fuses choir-esque voices with Gaelic tones, including pitch-perfect yodels at the end of each line, overall delivering a melancholic vibe which sends you straight to the solace of a church and a vocal performance which is right up Rough’s street, especially when you reach the chorus sections and find yourself feeling choked over the memorable lyrics “I keep looking in the mirror til’ I see myself, I see myself, hey lover will you blow my cover cause’ I’m not myself, I’m not myself.” The chants of “heal me” repeated behind their lead in the verses is masterfully performed and the beat in places, with its’ “gun-shot”-esque kicks will undoubtedly throw you back to Beyonce’s 2009 ballad “Halo.”
To conclude Ider’s beautiful new single “Mirror,” it is an emotional Electro ballad which after a few listens may have you in floods of tears and is most definitely one of our personal favourites since the start of the magazine, and if Rough had a “Top 10 best singles of 2018” chart “Mirror” would definitely come close to the number 1 spot, along with other great tracks from this year such as Just Loud’s “Electrified.” The new duo are bound to be big if they continue to release heartfelt songs like this banger, and all fans of Taylor Swift’s catchy Synth Pop direction need to check them out. Ider’s “Mirror” is out now on download and stream from all online stores. Seriously Ider...where the hell have you been? ROUGH ONLINE are a new fan of your work!
