“Loyal” evidences once again why we fell in love with the Hackney-born singer and songwriter in the first place. On this occasion, however, we see the quirky, experimental Pop artist Paloma Faith showcasing visuals alongside her new single, unlike anything she’s ever done before, presented in the form of a music video referring to emotions such as love, resentment and frustration as well as relationships ending in violent tragedy. Dramatic yes…but delivered masterfully by director Jamie Travis, and of course the singer herself with her accomplice…the man who plays her lover. Musically, we wouldn’t expect anything less from Paloma…opening with an emotive chord structure performed on the piano, played in the style of her 2012 single “Just Be,” leading to trippy percussion in its’ bridge building up nicely to another classic Faith hook, and when you get there you are blown away by a heavy, Electro kit (the sort that you would usually hear on a Dubstep track) and powerfully, emotional vocals as she sings “if we’re always searching for a love that’s perfect, how we ever gonna’ see just what we got?”

Paloma Faith is indeed the queen of profound lyrics performed via a memorable melody, and without a doubt you will be singing with her when the words “maybe we’re loyal, maybe we’re not” kick in for sure. However, for those of you who were about to dismiss the song as just another dramatic, Pop ballad, before making such a biased, predictable rejection, check out the official music video which enhances the power of Paloma’s newest single with the utmost strength, as her and her “lover” perform how dysfunctional their relationship really is through effortlessly performed contemporary dance around a dinner table, while the “other side of Paloma” who she has kept locked away in the wardrobe watches while the singer reminisces on times where the couple were in a more sexual yet volatile place, as well as witnessing her shooting an arrow into her lover’s heart. After awakening from a blackout, she sees her dead lover pinned to the war by the arrow she had shot into his chest, leading to the two Palomas’ to sing the last chorus of the song to each other.

It is fair to say that one of London’s most respected Pop acts has never delved into intense visual territory like this previously, and Rough Online applaud both Paloma for continuously taking more and more risks within her art, and Jasmin Vardimon for her stunning choreography. “Loyal” is the new single from the Zeitgeist Edition of last year’s number 1 UK album “The Architect,” out this November, so don’t waste any time and check out the official music video now on YouTube. Paloma…ROUGH ONLINElove you.
