Singer-song writer Lewis Watson is just the kind of musical revelation we've been waiting for here at Rough. His new album is a fluid take on storytelling. Lyrics run seamlessly and unobstructed like rivers. And melodies with their dark full pianos unfold magically from verse to verse.
We'd be lying if we didn’t say there are some heartbreaking moments to this songbook, like Deep The Water.
"You give me nothing...So deep the water...And I’m left here drowning out."
But heartbreak is what we love. We have touches of Luke Sital-Singh, a few tasteful garnishes of Gavin DeGraw, and sublime echoes of Bon Iver. But this is clearly Lewis Watson's story, fashioned from his own musical DNA.
Other standouts on the 11 piece set include the opener Maybe We're Home, LA Song, Hello Hello, and Forever with its funky upbeat bittersweetness. Watson's new album is out now on Cooking Vinyl.
