The German-born Pop singer, with a sweet, soft tone reminiscent of the songwriter behind Katy Perry’s 2010 smash hit album “Teenage Dream,” Bonnie McKee, brings us a rhythmically Dancehall-inspired, sensual Electro track entitled “Paradise.” Rather than a full set of drums, it is the bass line which keeps this sexual rhythm going, an overall minimal production that keeps a simple yet effective urban vibe throughout up until Paradise’s final chorus where more percussive electro elements are added into the mix, a great piece of Pop music production which throws you back to Swedish singer Zara Larsson’s sultry UK hit single “I Would Like.”
Although there are unexpected, standout sections such as the song’s introduction, which opens with an unusual vintage, mechanical sound sample and sinister strings, its’ the warm synths in the chorus sections, played behind Maike’s seductive, whispery vocals, which literally send you into a mental state of tropical paradise. Rough Online’s personal favourite moment of Maike’s new single is the Middle 8 section, where you are unpredictably thrown into a haunting Winter vibe from what was a Summer breeze up to that point, via the use of a piano played in reverse on the second chord of each bar, sending you into the Alternative realm of Ellie Goulding. Maike is without a doubt showcasing her Experimental Pop skills on “Paradise,” making her the perfect medium between “commercial” and “underground,” promising a bright career for the new Electro singer, whose catchy song writing skills will with no doubt catch the eyes of current Pop singers like Rita Ora or Dua Lipa in no time.
