Following the release of the Electro duo’s recent album “Human Music,” Solomon Grey have now brought to the table a remixed version of their critically acclaimed record, in the form of the “Human Remix,” and one of the greatest moments on their newest release is Little Dragon’s version of “The Game,” which when comparing it to the original completely takes you away from the atmospheric landscapes of their emotive production to a club dancefloor, in the vein of producer Mirwais Ahmadzai, the man behind Madonna’s 2003 Alternative Pop album “American Life.”
Its’ the use of Acid synths on the bass line that brings about that Funky club groove that makes you want to move your hips while becoming an instant slave to Little Dragon’s rhythm. The vocal has cleverly been given a little delay and some of the bass has been taken off in comparison to the original recording, to give it that “bright” club feel, perfectly equalising the great use of industrial-esque keyboard sounds, that slightly throw us back to the machine-influenced music of Bjork’s famous “Selmasongs” score for the 2000 film “Dancer In The Dark.” And before Little Dragon’s finale, we are reminded of how captivated we were by the ethereal sounds of The Game’s original version, when a section of its’ predecessor is dropped in, with a Dance hi hat keeping tempo so we are reminded to keep our bodies moving despite its’ meditative, relaxing String synths bringing about just that little bit of sadness the remix needed to bring it to a superb close.
Definitely one to be requested at the clubs on a Saturday night, but rather than predictably taking you to a summer’s night in the Balearics, Little Dragon’s remix to Solomon Grey’s “The Game,” is there to send you into a dirty, dark basement club on a cold, winter’s night, which Rough Online love for its’ Alternative appeal. Look out for more remixes from the Dance music producer coming soon for sure.
