Fond Of Rudy are not shying away from being a cheesy, Electro act with both 80’s and 90’s production-style qualities, and ROUGH absolutely love it. Along with other Synth-Pop acts such as Carly Rae Jepsen and Foxes, Fond Of Rudy are making the perfect “throwback” possible, by bringing us their catchy new single “Imagination.” With a stunning sound from the keyboards, as well as reverb, chorus-effected guitar riffs, similar to those heard on The Outfield Pop-Rock hit “Your Love,” this song is bound to get the attention of those who are still listening to Jason Donavan today. Think of a more current, Indie-Pop version of “Too Many Broken Hearts,” before listening, and you’re on the right track.
You expect the chorus to be a huge force of bright sounds, since its’ build-up includes a catchy melody, a Robyn-esque bass synth, rhythmically reminiscent of Depeche Mode’s “Just Can’t Get Enough,” and an overall colourful 90’s Pop production that throws us back to early Kylie Minogue, specifically “Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquai,” with a hint of Take That’s cover, with Lulu, of Dan Fartman’s “Relight My Fire.” However, surprisingly the chorus strips back from all the glossy tools used in the verse and creates an unexpectedly calmer mood, just to give our feet a little rest from dancing our arses off right up to the final chorus where the beat is brought back in to ensure that listeners do not forget the main hook that got us smiling in the first place. Watch this space for more great songs from the four-piece band Indie-Pop Fond Of Rudy very soon.
