ROUNG ONLINE gave Givers a positive review for their uplifting Indie-Pop anthem “Love Is Like A Fire,” last month, taken from their highly anticipated E.P “Movin’ On” which kicks off with a summer Folk-Rock banger called “Collide.” The talented 3-piece band from Louisiana already have two critically acclaimed albums under their belt and the opening of their new E.P for sure will garner just the same response on its’ own with guitarist Taylor Guarisco’s strong, impactful musicianship skills as he plays his electric with the utmost passion, delivering a great, catchy rhythm guitar groove that grabs your attention from the get-go and throws you back to Sheryl Crow’s “Tuesday Night Music Club” era, and Tiffany Lamson’s pitch-perfect, whispery backing vocals in the verses, up until her beautiful solo in the Middle 8. Taylor’s lead vocals are slick, on top of the thickest set of Room Kit-style drums, which along with a touch of reverb on both Guarisco’s and Lamson’s singing creates an unforgettable Rock N’ Roll sound, easily comparable to the production of Patrick Carney from The Black Keys.
A “Disco-esque meets Indie Rock” vibe is created on the song “Half Life,” which delves into a similar musical world to their single “Love Is Like A Fire.” However, the distorted delay effect added to their vocals ensures that “Half Life” still remains in the Indie Rock realm, but still keeps you dancing with its’ funky rhythm guitars and provides a bright, fun ending with the use of trumpets in the song’s finale. Overall, its’ sound is very reminiscent of early Haim, and their harmonising is beyond tight. And the E.P’s title track unexpectedly showcases their fearless use of experimentation, by delivering a Raggaeton rhythm on the drums, with Industrial-esque Electro programming that you could easily compare to Mark Bell’s production on Bjork’s 1997 album “Homogenic.” Josh LeBlanc and Guarisco’s masterful guitar playing quite simply lights up the song, as well as the use of bright synths that make you feel as though you are dancing to “Movin’ On,” on a desert island in the sun. Movin’ On’s purpose was blatantly created for you to celebrate life, and shake your arse around to the beat, especially in the instrumental sections after each chorus which includes the use of cowbell and clave playing, and Rough Online absolutely love this concept and vibe.
It was without a doubt Givers’ intention to get you up and dancing when they composed their new body of work, as it is definitely not a “sit down and relax” Folk Rock record. Instead, they have released a Dance-inspired Indie Pop record which cleverly fuses both Urban and Folk influences, and it is done masterfully. “Movin’ On” is bound to garner positive reviews universally from music critics, so don’t miss out and check out Givers’ brand new E.P now, available on download and streaming from all online stores.
