With Gay Pride in London, UK right round the corner, it seems very fitting for ROUGH ONLINE to be premiering LGBT rapper Devmo’s brand new track “Kylie Jenner,”
a 100% definite, must-listen-to. Delivering a heavy TNGHT-esque Trap Beat, with a lyrical rhythm similar to Beyonce’s “Formation”
in the verses, and an in-your-face “gangsta”
attitude despite the overall “dreamy” music production, “Kylie Jenner,”
is bound to gain instant attention from Electro, Indie and Urban music lovers who have been dying to hear a Hip-Hop artist with a unique style for ages.
A ghostly synth in its’ intro playing the repetitive chord structure lays down the atmospheric foundation of the song nicely, up until the fuzzy, William Orbit-esque keyboard sounds are thrown into the chorus which almost, along with its’ reminiscent tempo, makes Devmo’s masterpiece a futuristic version of Ciara’ s 2005 hit single “Oh.” The catchy chorus section is perfectly produced, with the hypnotic use of reverb and delay on Devmo’s laid-back vocals as she sings “Kylie Jenner-girls are just my type,” which is enough on its’ own to make you want to repeat the song again after the first listen, as well as the traditional Dance “clap” used as a snare and an audio sample of a voice shouting “let’s go” similar to the “Leslie West sample” taken from the song “Long Red,” by his band Mountain, which was famously used in Lana Del Rey’s 2011 single “Born To Die.” Of course, the standing ovation occurs during Devmo’s well-equipped Middle 8 Rap section, where the multi-talented music artist proves that she is more skilful than the Iggy Azaleas and Cardi Bs out there right now and the last chorus introduces an Arabian-vocal sounding synth, to give it the M.I.A edge it needed to bring “Kylie Jenner” to a close.
In the most respectful, complimentary way, think of Charli XCX after she has had a few spliffs and you’ll know what to expect from Devmo’s “Kylie Jenner,” a relaxed yet slightly eccentric Urban-Electro club track with a powerfully, fearless attitude. She is one of the most original Rap acts that ROUGH ONLINE has come across to date, so go ahead and stream her awesome new single now and you won’t regret it.
