ROUGH ONLINE are a little obsessed with multi-talented Dance music producer and songwriter CUB’s new single “Obsessed,” which features the tinny and raspy, Robyn-esque vocals of new Alt-Pop diva Clara Hurtado, whose voice will send you into a “Rihanna” frenzy, especially when that infectious hook drops in the chorus sections. Since making her debut appearance on The Voice UK last year, we have been anticipating new music from Clara, who could easily join the long list of sassy Synth-Pop singers who are currently taking over the music scene, including Zara Larrson and Tove Lo, and Rough couldn’t be happier with this collaboration. Trust us…it was worth the wait.
“Obsessed” opens with one-hell-of-a-deep bass line over a 4 by 4 Dance beat, and a fusion of throwback synths, particularly dropped in the middle 8 section consisting of that famous 90’s Organ keyboard sound with loved listening to on tracks like Alex Party’s 1995 hit single “Don’t Give Me Your Life” which perfectly gives “Obsessed” its’ vintage, Eurodance vibe, and a sick groove almost reminiscent of Justin Timberlake’s 2006 smash hit “SexyBack,” all together making us dance our arses off from the get go. And let’s not forget Cub’s slick skills on the guitar, where we find the multi-instrumentalist performing masterful leads on the Electric, with reverb and delay effects which adds to Obsessed’s sexual tone and gives it that “XX” feel. You would be so foolish to not check out the official music video, showcasing Clara looking like an 80’s Belinda Carlisle, wearing ripped jeans and posing alongside the man himself Cub, where the diva also wears ensembles almost paying homage to the early career of Pop icon Kylie Minogue. “Obsessed” is well and truly a proper tune, so download and stream Cub’s new single, out now on all online stores.
