ROUGH ONLINE are so happy to have discovered Canadian band Bleeker, despite years after their formation, because since the release of their new single “James Dean” we have officially labelled them as one of our new favourite Pop-Rock acts of 2018, and these are the reasons why. Not only does this awesome track deliver one hell-of-a-catchy chorus, with the lyrics “I just wanna’ be like James Dean, running wild, young and free” that trust us…will make you want to repeat the song again instantly after the second it finishes. It also brings top-notch music production from the critically acclaimed Dave “Sluggo”Katz. It’s no wonder considering who Bleeker worked with on their new single that you could almost consider this as a more live, Rock-sounding version of Katy Perry’s classic hits “Wide Awake” and “E.T.” However, as a compliment to the band, “James Dean” is way too short…because that’s how much we love the song…we wanted it to be so much more longer, and it has left ROUGH craving more new releases from the band, plus an extended version of the track, for us to blare out every Friday night.
The impressive, howling technique in the chorus where lead singer Taylor Perkins goes up on an octave using his high-pitched head voice with the perfect use of delay, as well as vocal dips in the verses that give “James Dean” its’ Alternative-edge and showcase a very similar tone to Maroon 5’s Adam Levine all together deserve a standing ovation. It is these elements that ensure that “James Dean” is both memorable and powerful, along with a stunning fusion of reverb-effected Electric lead and rhythm guitars behind wisely chosen synths, overall presenting a bright, uplifting piece of music with a classic, Pop chord structure. ROUGH ONLINE definitely consider Bleeker’s “James Dean” to be one of the best Pop songs to come out this year and if Nickelback ever decided to go in a more synth-influenced Rock direction it would probably sound a little something like this. If you download and stream their new single, you will without a doubt be bouncing around to the beat in TGIF mode way before the weekend begins, and don’t forget to check out the official music video which is just as entertaining as the single, where men go to audition for the part of playing James Dean to a panel…who are none other than the band themselves. Hehe!
