Singer Vivienne Chi is definitely keeping things underground on her new track “Under Your Skin” which steers away from the usual, bright, radio-friendly, Electro-Pop we’re too used to hearing, concluding that the new Bristol-born musician is a refreshing artist whose new work should be highly respected. Reminiscent of the sultry, relaxing moments of Jessie Ware, Chi takes you on a musical journey straight to a Saturday night rave, as opposed to a small local nightclub, via the use of a distorted bass line which throws you back to the synths used in Bodyrox’s 2006 club hit “Yeah, Yeah,” the more that the filter on the distortion is slowly released throughout the first verse, a mid-tempo Hip-Hop style drum beat and Vivienne’s soothing voice performed over a male-sounding backing vocal, performed an octave below the lead.
Overall, it is a skilfully produced piece of Electro music, especially when the 4 by 4 Dance beat drops in on the second verse, sending you into a meditative state of musical bliss, and if the overall package isn’t enough to make you want to dance to the infectious groove, then you must simply be a crazy person. It is a song which instantly throws you back to the start of Kele Okereke’s solo career, specifically his 2010 club track “Tenderoni” and Rough Online believe this to be the start of a very respectable career for the new queen of Rave, one we haven’t seen since the likes of Katy B. We are most definitely intrigued to hear more from Vivienne Chi. Download and stream “Under Your Skin” out now on all online stores.
