Thomas Jack has etched out his name in electronic music with a singular approach to deep, sensual beats and emotive sounds. His latest foray into the bevy of summer releases that impact about this time of the year is a sultry EP he simply entitles The Versus. While it could be a play on words, let's take the title at its root: an opposition of forms, light and dark, hard and soft, heavy and soft.
The Versus really throbs something serious on its opening title Shortline. Here's an uptempo dancefloor filler that moves with its dense cacophony of percussive sounds and kicks. And the vocal is like a muted trumpet, blue in its emotional texture and bittersweet in its over all ambiance. It's darkly sweet. Funky.
Then there is the lovely Basic Instinct which lives up to the idea of being sexy, sassy, rough, intense and even cathartic. Jack's new EP is revelatory insomuch as it feels like a hot night out in a banging club somewhere in Tokyo or Milan...or Paris. This is your "get your freak on" background music...unless you prefer something a little slower paced like Sade.
Welcome Thomas Jack to your fold. This is the EP you'll be playing going into that steamy night adventure you've been building up to with you know who. The Versus is available on FFRR. You can hear it first here:
