Since last year’s single “One Night Only,” critics have been curious as to whether or not there is a follow-up album to their debut “Everybody Wants” on the way, and now The Struts have entered 2018 as loud as they can possibly get with their brand new single “Body Talks” which takes on an unexpected Jive and Jazz Dance type-tempo, but still showcases their famous influence of Queen at the forefront. Think Lou Bega’s 1999 smash hit “Mumbo No.5” meets The Darkness, and you’re on the right track. As soon as you hear the clicking of fingers creating that typical Latin rhythm, you know you’re in for a different kind of Indie Rock treat from this lively, entertaining, fearless band with great musicianship skills and a music production that makes the listener feel as though they are watching The Struts live in concert.
With a slick Rock vocal from Luke Spiller, that at times delivers an accidental British twang and comes across as a slightly harder and raspier version of Matt Bellamy, specifically on Muse’s hit “Time Is Running Out,” as well as a catchy, distorted guitar part in the chorus, reminiscent of the riff performed in the Sugababes’ track “We Could Have It All” from the Three-era, this, almost, Industrial Pop-Rock song by The Struts is going to garner new fans for sure, as well as keep their current fanbase aching for a full-length second album. And of course, “Body Talks” only needed a Rockabilly, Blues Rock-style guitar solo after the second chorus to finish the song off nicely, in which you could easily picture the Burlesque dancers getting down and dirty to this one in the Metal clubs, with its’ overdrive and delay effects added nicely on top. Either way, the whole combo of Heavy Rock meets Latin-Mumbo, as strange as it sounds works so well that ROUGH ONLINE has had “Body Talks” on repeat for the last 48 hours. It’s a track that has definitely been written for their audience to get up, dance and body bang around the place, so go ahead and stream The Struts’ new single now and go flipping crazy the same way we did on first listen.
