2018 is looking like the year for party, Dance-Pop bangers, now brought to you by Mayka with her follow-up single to “Rich,” the “Timbaland-style” R&B, Electro track, reminiscent of Nelly Furtado’s “Promiscious” and which showcased a strong vocal performance produced like a Lana Del Rey song with its’ reverbs and delays, as well as a crowd effect that made Mayka’s appearance known on her debut. Now, the talented producer and songwriter with the most unusually thin yet raspy voice that is bound to get all music lovers’ attention for its’ unique quality, is back with “Watching You,” a catchy Pop song, with a very current, “Major Lazer-esque” sound. The verse’s “Xylophone” bass line that throws us back to the synth-hook from Natalie La Rose’s hit single “Somebody,” keeps the tempo going nicely before the chorus kicks in with its 4/4 Dance beat and funky, Disco keyboard sound while she calmly sings “I’ll be watching you from a distance, I can’t take my eyes off you,” with a tone similar to Allie X that will ensure her place on your Summer playlist. The instrumentation used in the chorus drums and its’ extra, off-beat percussion is definitely 90’s House-inspired, and does not shy away from its’ intention to get us in the mood for a Saturday night out.
“Watching You” is available to download and stream from all online stores now and sets Mayka up nicely amongst current, female Dance artists such as Dua Lipa and Zara Larrson. It is only a matter of time before you will find her collaborating with well-renowned pop songwriters like Calvin Harris or MNEK, if she hasn’t done so already. She is definitely a singer with a sassy sound, enough to gain mainstream appeal for her distinctive vocals and memorable hooks. Watch this space for more from Mayka who has already gained respect from other Pop artists such as Charli XCX.
