'ROUGH ONLINE over the coming the months will be teaming up with various interesting individuals from all different walks of life. There will be answering some random question put to them. The most occuring question in this case will be about their own definition of 'YOUNG'.
'ROUGH YOUNG THINGS' as a title, goes beyond the physicality of ones age but rather the inner youth that exhumes on the outside the persona.
ROUGH ONLINE presents Dutch based couple and travellers, JAN & FILIP as our latest 'ROUGH YOUNG THINGS. The duo are captured by London based photographer Issa Yajzi exclusively for ROUGH-ONLINE.

ROUGH-ONLINE: Who is Jan & Filip?
JAN: I’m Dutch and live in the Netherlands now but I was born abroad, moved seventeen times and lived in six different countries. I have loved travelling from a young age. My first memories are from a trip from Germany to the Provence when I was just two years old. I love to discover new places and many things interest and fascinate me: nature, architecture, technology, photography. I am always learning new things and want to understand everything. What I love most I meeting people wherever I go and making new friends. I love having guests and taking them sightseeing. I work part-time for a large telecommunications provider in the Netherlands in a regular office job which gives me a lot of free time and opportunities to travel after working days. Taking photos is a big hobby of mine even though, unfortunately, I do not own a camera. All my photos are taken with my smartphone but I’m happy with the result and post them on Instagram @janwillemplug. Instagram is a great tool to connect with people and it is what lead me and Filip to go to London for the ROUGHdigital photoshoot.
FILIP:I was born in Poland and raised in Germany. I have been travelling a lot ever since I was a child and I think that is why I can’t sit still and want to travel all the time. Just like Jan I love getting to know people. We are a great match because we have many similar interests. I work for a German car manufacturer as a Planning Specialist. I am good at planning so I’m usually the one arranging trips and checking out things to see in the places we travel to. Jan introduced me to the Instagram community and it has helped us discover new places and find new friends. Beside my personal account @fileks we also both manage our joint account @instatripping and really enjoy that.

ROUGH-ONLIBE: Top three favourite places in the world and why? This is a hard question.
JAN: This is a hard question...One of my favourite places is the Konigssee in southern Germany at the border to Austria. It is one of few places I like to go back to time and time again. It’s a place with two incredibly beautiful lakes surrounded by magnificent snow-covered mountains. It has been part of a national park for over a hundred years and is so clean and unpolluted that you can see right to the bottom of the lakes all along the coast for several meters. I was there first as a little boy and it was amazing to me. It was also the place where Filip and I went to on our very first trip. We love hiking around the lakes to a secluded area with a big waterfall and lie there in the sun. My favourite country when it comes to nature is Norway. I have travelled along the Norwegian coast several times exploring the amazing fjords and mountains and valleys. I have never seen so many breathtaking sights and views as in I have in Norway. I love mountains in general. They can be so impressive and beautiful and daunting. But the mountains in Norway are more than thay – they are majestic. Third favourite place is really hard to answer because there are so many. I love city trips. London, Paris, Prague, Amsterdam, Madrid are all great. The city that I find most beautiful is perhaps Rome. I love history and architecture and Rome has really impressed me with both.
FILIP: One is the Azores islands because of their awesome and untouched nature. The location of the islands is great and makes them unique in many ways. I have not seen all islands yet, but they are all on my to do list. Every island has something special to discover so I look forward to going there again. Another favourite place is Toronto. I love the city and the liveliness there. It is very multi-cultural and the people are so open and tolerant. I always feel welcome whenever I go there. Favourite place number three is the Costa del Sol in southern Spain. The climate is amazing and I love all the small cities and places there that have so much history and culture in them. There are so many great places there that I can’t wait to show Jan around there.

ROUGH-ONLINE: What are your daily grooming routine?
JAN: I don’t spend too much time in the bathroom but I take care of my skin well and efficiently. I use a good facial cleanser every morning (and evening too) and a scrub once or twice a week, cover up pores etc. with a special clay-like cream and always use moisturizer for eyes and for the rest of my face. Doing my hair after that only takes a minute since I have curly hair and there’s not much to arrange there J.
FILIP: I am in a hurry in the morning during the week so I don’t do a lot of grooming then. Quick shower, moisturizer etc and then I go. But in the weekends, I take more time. Shaving, grooming, and getting everything right again.

ROUGH-ONLINE: One item in your wardrobe you can’t do without?
JAN: I love my slim-fit shirts and polos, especially in Summer and have several very comfortable slim-fit jeans that I would not want to miss in my wardrobe.
FILIP: I like wearing comfortable polo-shirts and really have a lot of them. I wouldn’t want to be without the slim-fit ones made with soft materials.

ROUGH-ONLINE: What is your own definition of ‘Young’ as being part of the ROUGH Young Things?
JAN: It may sound cliché but I really do believe that ‘young’ is a state of mind. You are young when you are young at heart. You cannot grow old as long as you keep learning and being fascinated by all new things, always asking questions like children do and appreciating the beauty of places and people all around you.
FILIP: ‘Young’ to me means being energetic, open-minded, and curious about the world around you. Children are unbiased and open. I think we should all be like that and it keeps us young.
