ROUGH ONLINE: Tell ROUGH a bit about yourself?-
ALEC KING: I am 20 years old and a fashion model and work in broadcast TV media. I recently moved to London for my career from the countryside town of Northamptonshire where I lived half my life on a farm. But couldn't now be happier I'm in the city now! There is just something to do all of the time! And the people here are always on a side hustle! Like a student designer or yoga teacher photographer sort of thing. It's a different world from where I grew up from. But so inspiring and motivating for me.
ROUGH ONLINE: How did you get into modelling and how has the journey been so far?
ALEC KING: I first got singed from a street casting in central London while walking out of Topman/Topshop. I was then in development for a year and then a year after that I did my first fashion week and social media posts with Newlook men's and then from there it just grew to billboards about my skin condition vitiligo and venturing into tv work as well as other events around London fashion week and editorials. I really do feel blessed for my career so far! I have been given opportunities that not many get where I'm from.
ROUGH ONLINE: What other activities do you engage in apart from modelling eg professionally and hobbies?
ALEC KING: I have always loved adventure sports and water sports! I was part of the junior Olympic swimming team but recently started Surfing and I really understand why so many people are obsessed with it! I can't get and enough! I also love skiing and skateboard too!Besides that I have a love for styling and photography so if I'm not on set I'm either doing something that scares the hell out my agency on a slope or in the ocean or behind the set styling or shooting! Ahahaha.
ROUGH ONLINE: What do you consider your best qualities?
ALEC KING: I would say my fair loyalty. Many of my circle of friends and family would say the same thing. I really like to think I say it as it is. Then with that it allows me to treat everyone the same. I never really got the whole divide of just because someone is older or younger than you then that channels the level of respect that they are given? Shouldn't we all get equal respect...
ROUGH ONLINE: What's your definition of 'Young' as being part of the ROUGH YOUNG THINGS?
ALEC KING: I think being young is ultimately being free if so with a bit of a selfish streak. It's a time for you. A time in which you can explore you and what you want to do and I think it's not until I moved to the city I really embodied being a young twenty something. But am so thankful for it! It's allowed me to go down avenues I thought I had already cutoff because I was "too old"
But being around so many creatives I think I learnt that young is also a mindset. I for sure have met young minded 60 somethings and old 23 year olds. It's a balance of embodiment of living your best life and pushing yourself outside of yourself. Doing more than your peripheral. I think anyways.
