When reading the title of Electro trio Dolores Haze’s new single, you think it will be an even louder, aggressive experience in comparison to their previous effort “Banana,” a song which headed more towards a mainstream Indie Pop direction, which ROUGH ONLINE gave a rave review on early summer. Surprisingly, “Play Hard, Fuck Hard, Love Hard” takes you on a dreamy, trippy journey, leaning toward a more subtle, underground realm, in which despite the song’s lyrics there is nothing musically sexual or hardcore about the overall production, an unusual yet cleaver contradiction which you will definitely find yourself repeating again and again because of its’ infectious hook, consisting of a “cockney” vocal performance over distorted strums on the Electric, which gives it its’ Punk vibe and a Trap-influenced beat. Although you know pretty much from the very beginning that “Play Hard” will be a more melancholic number, when the chorus section drops and you will without a doubt let the meditative, delay, “crowd” effect on Dolores Haze’s vocals take you over…and trust us…you won’t want their new single to end.
Their sweet yet slightly creepy Pop tone fuses Bananarama and Charli XCX together perfectly, so much that you will be craving for more by the end, and if Alisha’s Attic ever decided to make a more adult contemporary comeback, it would probably sound a little something like this. Yes they are one of the most psychedelic acts to come out of 2018, but most importantly they are one of the most exciting music acts to come out of 2018, who quite simply want to invite you into their world of musical mystery and wonder.
