While things may have got a bit too serious due to the Kanye Wests’ and the Jay-Zs’ of Hip-Hop, a duo have recently hit the U.S Urban scene, reminding us of when Rap Music was about positive energy on a Saturday night in the noughties.
Tori Fixx had established himself as a respected Underground music producer, back in 2005 with his solo album effort “Marry Me,” which was met with universal praise from indie critics, such as the LGBT American magazine The Advocate. Now teamed up with up-and-coming Rapper and Actor Lester Greene, the duo LGTFX bring you their debut album “Cocktails,” which from beginning to end is hell-bent on delivering a TGIF-vibe, in the vein of dance bands like LMFAO and eccentric “Ole-Skool” rappers like Missy Elliott, with Fixx’s and Greene’s tongue-in-cheek lyrics and sexual innuendos on tracks like “3’s not Company,” and a beat to make you dance your arse off to on “Cocktails (My Cup Runneth Over).”
The “throwback” House sample on “I Just Want You,” reminiscent of classic dance bangers like The Shapeshifter’s 2006 hit “Lola’s Theme,” gets you in the mood for throwing some shapes, while “That’s Me (All Day Long)” will bring about the current atmospheric “Justin Bieber-esque” sound qualities on its’ chanting chorus that we love listening to, so we can get drunk on the music, and the hip-hop duo are quite simply not holding back on their intention to turn up the volume on them synths on “Cocktails (My Cup Runneth Over)” where they crossover to a mainstream Dance-Pop sound, similar to those heard in 2007 on Rihanna’s “Please Don’t Stop The Music,” and Timbaland’s “The Way I Are.” LGTFX quite simply want to have some fun and want to invite you along for the ride.
