Having previously wrote about Just Loud after being obsessed with his catchy single “Electrified” where Kelly Clarkson met The Killers and the weird and unusual “Ghost,” that threw us back to Indie bands like Bloc Party, Rough Online were desperate to listen to his debut E.P “Episode 1.” The 4-track piece of musical art, consisting of off-the-hook vocals, especially from his cover of Radiohead’s famous 1992 Indie Rock track “Creep,” and a fusion of solid Pop-Rock and dark Alternative Ballads such as “Angels and Demons,” is without a doubt one of the best E.Ps ROUGH ONLINE has heard to date, and it would be an injustice if the singer and songwriter did not receive the critical acclaim he deserves for delivering such an epic, well written and superbly crafted debut.
“Angels and Demons,” along with its’ official music video, had us falling into a Trip-Hop zone, because of the opening, distorted electric guitar riff playing a melody in a minor key, slightly reminiscent to Portishead’s “Sour Times,” and the singer’s haunting use of vibrato at the end of each line in the verses, up until the chorus section where them overdrive guitars are turned up on full blast as well as Just Loud’s vocal tone giving it all he’s got in his strength to sing “angels and demons I have fallen,” with the utmost emotional strength possible for us to feel the pain in his voice. The official music video, a follow-up to “Ghost” showcases the singer performing through televisions, in shop windows and behind dramatic flames, wearing a long leather jacket, in his most simplistic concept yet out of all the visuals ROUGH ONLINE has seen from the singer so far.
To conclude Just Loud’s proven talent, it is rare that an artist covers a classic Rock song that has been worshipped by all music lovers worldwide, and throws you into a completely new dimension to what the original did. Just Loud’s vocal performance on his superb rendition of “Creep” is quite simply overwhelming and breathtaking, with an intense build-up from the more softer approach with vocal breaks in between words similar to “The King Of Pop” Michael Jackson to the dramatic Stadium Rock powerhouse vocals, reminiscent of Prince AKA The Artist in head-voice style, over reverb-effected electric guitars and dreamy synths, an overall light music production allowing Just Loud enough room to showcase his shockingly captivating and unpredictable vocal talents.
In Rough Online’s view, you would be silly not to download or stream his incredible debut E.P “Episode 1” for the one reason that is quite simply an Alternative Pop music masterpiece, and we seriously cannot wait for a full-length album from the multi-talented music artist, who so far has brought us nothing but memorable and exciting art. Just Loud…Rough Online are in awe of your craft and a huge fan of your beautifully unique work. We expect more stunning creativity from the singer very soon.
