Having already received rave reviews from Spin and Vogue, ROUGH ONLINE were naturally curious as to who Ivan Dorn is, and it turns out that we were way, way behind…the Russian music artist has already got a huge portfolio of musical works in his catalogue, one of them consisting of his debut album which was released back in 2012. Now, the very unusual and unique singer and songwriter presents us with a brand new single, and a collaboration with DJ Vakula, he has entitled “Opomnis.” The result is…well…ROUGH ONLINE quite simply cannot get enough of Dorn’s new single, for its Ole’ Skool Dance music production, which back in the day would have been aired every Saturday night, “pre-hitting the club” on Kiss 100. It is quite frankly pure underground Club bliss, and it would be no surprise if Katy B sampled Dorn’s “Opomnis” on one of her upcoming, long-awaited, new musical works.
Trust us when we say that in seconds all you throwback Ibiza fans will find yourselves reminded of Paul van Dyk’s 1994 debut album “45 RPM” via the overlapping Organ synth on the bass line, reminiscent of 90’s Eurodance, over the 4 by 4 Dance beat and a one-note Pizzicato similar to Sash’s notable sound in the earlier part of his career, specifically on tracks like his 1997 single “Encore Une Fois,” as well as the Acid House synth that drops after the second chorus, just before the unexpected breakdown section where a group of men clap to keep tempo and sing the repetitive lyrics form Opomnis’s main hook. And let’s not forget its’ psychedelic fusion of singing and spoken word, which adds to the overall “sexual” meets “dark” meets “high” vibes. Basically…if your hips aren’t moving by the middle 8 section, you must be mad. Download and stream Ivan Dorn’s “Opomnis” out now.
