So what do we have here? An experimental, lo-fi Synth piece, which delivers vocals reminiscent of singer and songwriter Birdy’s style, open strums on an overdrive-effected electric guitar and distorted keyboard sounds that you would usually hear on a Witchcore track, presented by newcomer The Motion via their debut single “Hollow.” The dark, Alternative Electro track’s standout section is without a doubt the instrumental which drops after the second chorus and moves very quickly into Nine Inch Nails-esque territory with its’ heavy music production. However, let’s not forget The Motion’s honest lyrics “I’ve got a heavy head, and a hollow heart to follow,” sung in such a laid back tone that it relaxes every bone in your body, before the edgy beat drops back in again, throwing you back specifically to the Further Over The Edge remix of Bjork’s “Enjoy” from the art icon’s 1996 “Telegram” album.
ROUGH ONLINE, being obsessed with Fashion, are in awe of The Motion’s image which at times throws you back to the early days of Indie band Placebo, i.e. the androgyny of Brian Molko, especially when you watch Hollow’s official music video consisting of multi-coloured effects taking over the visuals while The Motion performs psychedelically to the camera. If La Roux ever decided to go in a more industrial direction it would probably sound a little something like this, and all that’s left to say is…remember where you heard The Motion first. “Hollow” is out now.
