Rock band Don Broco
are back with another awesome single from their long-awaited album “Technology” which was released in February to universally positive reviews from music critics. The newest track “Greatness,” is an absolute blast to listen to, with its Disco rhythm drum beat, accompanied by a Gongue-sounding percussive instrument being hit on and off of the electro-clap snare, a synth reminiscent of Hot Butter’s 1972 version of the Gershon Kingsley instrumental “Popcorn” played in the choruses on top of the overuse of open hi-hats, which gives the song its’ memorable, light-hearted Pop quality despite the well-edited, Metal-influenced, catchy, distorted guitar riffs that provide its’ dark undertone and makes you “head bang” around the room. Vocally in the vein of Papa Roach’s lead singer Jacoby Shaddix, notably their 2002 anthem “She Loves Me Not,” Don Broco’s Rob Damiani makes his strong presence known as he roars “give me fucking greatness or give me nothing at all,” perfectly in tune with the sort of angst the track needed, which fused with its’ Dance-Rock vibe delivers a slight sexual edge…the pole-dancing kind.
The official music video, a follow-up to the Terminator-esque narrative for their last single “Come Out To L.A” which ended with the remains of one of the band members, along with a metallic arm being buried in the sand, visually increases how fun “Greatness” is as a song. Moving onto the year 2028, in of course the exact same spot that Come Out To L.A’s music video left us, the man with the metallic arm is awakened by a friend, but they are both captured to face the “King Of The Desert” to fight for his throne in a caveman-like environment that throws us all the way back to the 1985 epic movie “Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.” You’d think The King, as he wears his Jesus-esque thorn crown, and “The Terminator” would compete in a classic sword fight, but instead the scenario becomes a dance-off consisting of choreographed jump-up’s and extended arm movements, body banging, and even the late 80’s African-influenced Dance move “The Running Man,” reminiscent of Janet Jackson’s showcase of the routine in her famous music video for the 1989 hit single “Rhythm Nation.”
It is an entertaining “MJ’s Thriller meets Mad Max stravaganza,” that keeps your eyes pilled to the screen right up to its finale where it is cleverly revealed that all participants in the Cave are in fact the band members. ROUGH ONLILNE strongly advise that you download and stream “Greatness” now, if of course you want to properly prepare yourself for your Saturday night at the Rock clubs, and check out the official website for their Tour Dates at www.donbroco.com. Don Broco…ROUGH applaud how much time, energy and effort is put into your work and we can’t wait to see more great visuals to accompany your great music.
