And when ROUGH ONLINE was beginning to think that 2018’s biggest bangers had already been and gone…along came Black Futures. One of the most rhythmically experimental tracks of the year, “Trance” funnily enough won’t put you in one, but instead will wake you up and throw you into that mosh pit like you’ve never been thrown before. The toms drop in its’ opening so heavily with an unexpected Latin rhythm, with its’ one kick on and one kick off the beat, that you instantly anticipate one of the loudest chorus sections you’ve heard all year and Black Futures don’t let us down one bit, because after the filter is slowly released on a catchy, overdrive-effected guitar riff which helps to build-up the climax to Trance’s main hook, you are hit with a distorted set of live drums and an overall Industrial-esque music production, sending you into a Prodigy-frenzy. In other words...it’s flipping awesome and just when we thought bands like Knife Party and Stanton Warriors were the only ones left delivering heavy, Punk-inspired Electronics, along came this refreshing, new band.
Black Futures want to see the dancefloor looking like an absolute mess, since in the second chorus decides to go from a Drum N’ Bass-esque rhythm with the use pf multiple kicks and toms, to a Reggaeton one within seconds. “Trance” is quite simply one of the craziest tracks to come out of 2018 and ROUGH ONLINE are pretty much obsessed with it for all these reasons, and let’s not forget those gravelly vocals, effected so they sound as though they are somewhere in the distance, singing “I see colours, I see light, I just migrate to the other side, tell me all your secrets, tell me all your secrets,“ words you know the audience would be chanting along to at one of their powerful live performances. The official music video is just as psychedelic as the track is, based out in the desert, featuring a man who picks up an alien flower which sends him into a trance and makes him walk around forming the “illuminati” sign with his hands.
ROUGH ONLINE just know from listening to “Trance” only the once that seeing Black Futures live would be one of the maddest gigs we’ve ever attended, and there is no doubt in our minds that their future releases will only get bigger and better. Black Futures...consider ROUGH ONLINE a new fan of your work and to all our readers and followers out there, don’t forget to grab your copy of their new E.P “Expedition 001” out now on all online stores.
