To continue ROUGH ONLINE’s celebration of London’s Gay Pride festival a couple of weeks ago, we bring you a new alternative rock band, who we believe to be the next big thing in music…the energetic and flamboyant Bang Bang Romeo. Led by powerful vocalist Stars, who owns the strongest pair of lungs out there right now, Bang Bang Romeo have dropped one of the biggest Pop-Rock bangers this year so far, entitled “Shame On You,” which with its’ hard-hitting Hip-Hop style rhythm drums including the occasional off-beat snare and perfect overuse of percussion making you shake your arse around the dancefloor, an old-skool synth that Aphex Twin so would have used back in the day, and a guitar riff in its’ intro that moves swiftly up the fretboard using a distorted, chorus-effect similar to the one used in Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s “Red Eyes and Tears” from the B.R.M.C album, their new single is bound to grab the attention of all Indie lovers who want to hear something camp and fun as opposed to the complacent acts churning out the same ole’ sound over and over again.

However, it is Stars voice that steals the show, with a deep vocal tone, slightly in the vein of Adele, in which you know the moment Bang Bang Romeo’s lead singer has entered the room because her dominating sound is extremely appealing to the ear. And let’s not forget the memorable, catchy hook, where Stars cleverly moves up an octave from its tonic key on the word “you,” and the Aretha Franklin-style high note delivered leading into the song’s final chorus. The music video is a definite showcase of the band’s stage presence, as Stars does everything in her power to ensure that she is remembered after the first watch, from wearing a red, flowy dress at a cocktail bar to a dark suit with shoulder pads made out of bright, gold feathers in a lit-up studio with her band members, performing the song with the diva attitude it visually needed. Despite the concept imagery of deceit and behaviour that some would judge as shameful, amongst the actors in the bar setting, Bang Bang Romeo fully take over Shame On You’s visual with their playful, rock-out persona, and it’s no surprise considering how the trio perform that they will be supporting the critically acclaimed Electric 6 responsible for the 2003 hit single “Gay Bar” on their upcoming tour. In one word, Bang Bang Romeo’s “Shame On You” equals…FABULOUS.
