With heartfelt lyrics, a vocal reminiscent of Coldplay’s Chris Martin, uplifting production and a beat that is set to get you ready for the summer, Alfie Indra’s brand new track “Cool People,”
deserves recognition and praise for all of its’ unique yet throwback qualities, which reminds us a little bit of the 80’s at times. It is refreshing to hear a pop song with a political message about how some young people react to others judging them, whether that be rebelling, or attempting to impress or seek approval because of one’s insecurities.
Right at the beginning of the track, Alfie hits us with a catchy melody you can easily get lost in because of its’ retro, space-like sound, before the verse delivers synths that takes us all the way to Ibiza, over bitterly sad lyrics “you don’t care, you give me the cold shoulder, and you laugh.” Alfie makes the message “cool people, they aren’t like me” very clear, by delivering his words acapella-style in the chorus, whilst the rest of the track ensures that a dancefloor will be filled in no time, with its’ bright synths and folky, acoustic rhythm guitar introduced in the second verse.
“Cool People,” is definitely a step away from Alfie’s music we heard last year, which was very stripped back and acoustic, as heard on tracks “Stand On My Own,” and “A Song About A Girl I Knew,” whereas we now see the talented singer stepping into the electro-pop world. Are we to hear more of this sound from the talented songwriter? And which sound do you prefer? ROUGH ONLINE had the pleasure of interviewing the singer we so could get to know the music artist a bit more, and find out what direction his music is heading.
