Think the emotionally charged, timid yet powerful vocals of Birdy meets the calm, Acid-Jazz sounds of Zero 7, and you’ll know what to expect to hear from classically trained musician and songwriter Greta Jaime, who with her new single “Computer Games,” unpredictably sends us to the soothing sounds of the ocean and landscape via warm soundtrack synths and an overall similar music production to William Orbit’s, specifically his work for the All Saints classic “Pure Shores,” as opposed to a collection of mechanical keyboard sounds which one would have expected reading the song’s title. Jaime’s smooth, slick guitar playing on top of a thick Electro kick keeping the tempo going, with an Alternative R&B rhythmic style reminiscent of Lana Del Rey’s famous 2011 track “Born To Die,” especially when the full set of drums drop in the second chorus, over a majority Major-chord structure, all together makes you crave for more from North London’s newest underground Chillout artist.

The ghostly synths that fade in and out of the bridge sections in “Computer Games,” over a filtered guitar riff throws you back to meditative sounds of music producer Bonobo, specifically on tracks of his like “Kota” from his 2000 debut album “Animal Magic,” and for all the right reasons, while Greta’s “gaelic” style voice shines through beautifully in the middle 8 section, where she shows off her mezzo soprano tone when reaching her higher register, specifically in the yodel at the end of each line. The distorted rhythm guitars that drop in the final chorus, giving Computer Games’ finale a slight Industrial Rock edge, leaves you hoping that Great Jaime may take her current mix of Chillout, Acoustic Pop and ethereal Electro into a Gothic Trip-Hop world, reminiscent of Tricky’s female accomplices. Watch this space for more experimental works from the talented singer and songwriter very soon, but for now…enjoy the musically intriguing “Computer Games.”
